Four years ago cannabis was illegal in Canada, and things have definately changed as it is not only now legal but soon you can place an order via Uber Eats and get it delivered to your door. On top of the existing items that Canadians can order on Uber Eats, residents of Toronto can not order cannibis products through a new partnership with Leafly.
“We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers offer safe, convenient options for people in Toronto to purchase legal cannabis for delivery to their homes, which will help combat the illegal market and help reduce impaired driving,” said Lola Kassim, General Manager of Uber Eats Canada. “Over the last few years, we have invested heavily in our delivery business and selection has expanded tremendously. Uber Eats has grown quickly to become a versatile platform usable by diverse businesses large and small.”
To ensure they comply with provincial laws, the order will only be delivered by the licenced cannabis retailer’s own CannSell certified staff. Independent third-party delivery people will not deliver cannabis.
Why it matters: Uber benefits from being able to add a new service fee with each delivery. Leafly gets a new distribution channel, and one that is temporaity exclusive as no other cannibis producer has this opportunity, right now.
