Well there is one thing that we do not have enough of in North America, and that’s group buying deal sites – now way, we are FLOODED! Enter Staples Canada who just announced a new partnership with Buytopia.ca to launch a group-buying promotion. So what’s different about the Staples offering?  At first glace it does not seem much, they will offer the standard discount on products, they have put a spin by offering type of deals:

Staples and Buytopia will offer three different 50% off voucher promotions. In Edmonton for $25, buyers will receive a $50 credit, in Calgary, for $10, buyers will receive a $20 credit and in Vancouver, for $20, buyers will receive a $40 credit. The credit can be applied to all in-store merchandise and the promotion will run from Tuesday October 4th until Monday October 10th. A limited number of offers are available in each city.

Sounds like they are in a testing phase if it is rolled out in smaller cities across Canada, to help kick the program off Buytopia is offering a “My Deal Bucks” program, where they give away referral dollars through their to any friend that shares the deal.
