Last we Canadians were able to access Pluto TV, a streaming service that gives consumers access to over 20,000 hours of free programming. This Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) arrives in Canada through a partnership with Corus Entertainment [TCO]

Pluto's pending arrival in Canada was first announced back in June at the CORUS Entertainment Upfront with many wondering how it would fit in the land of streaming giants. The FAST-based streaming models provide an opportunity for brands to take advantage of the various advertising opportunities as they look to engage with consumers. In the weeks leading up to their launch event, CORUS sales met with various media agencies to introduce the product and talk about the advertising opportunities for their respective agency clients.
We caught up with Bruce Neve and Jennifer Young to hear more on their initial thoughts on the advertising opportunities with Pluto TV for our latest edition of Industry Opinion.
Bruce Neve, President of True Media Canada [TCO]

Pluto's "FAST" service ( Free Ad Supported TV) is a new breed for Canadian viewers- no passwords, no subscription, no logon names, no cost , lots of station/content variety, and somewhat limited ad load.
Pluto doesn't offer new, quality content that drives cultural/social media conversation( eg Squid Games), but will offer "Total TV ' buyers a new opportunity to extend reach with the ability to buy regionally, selecting genre and at a competitive CPM vs Connected TV options.
It's going to be very interesting to see the consumer take up and any impact on subscription services especially as people manage household inflation - the " no cost" is very attractive.
Jennifer Young, Director of Media Buying Services at M&K Media [TCO]

Pluto TV is a excellent option for those who aren’t picky with content and don’t want to pay for another streaming service
- The Bad: Content and viewability. Programming on Pluto is a bit tired, the majority of content broadcasts live and the programming guide only shows upcoming episodes a few hours in advance. So if you’re looking for new or specific programs, this isn’t the best option for you
- The Good: Cost, ease of use & news content. Pluto TV is free, offers a wide breadth of programming and takes a minute to begin viewing, so it’s worth trying out. Pluto is also a great resource if you like to access more local news across the country.
