Geoffrey Hinton, a professor at the University of Toronto who is considered a pioneer of artificial intelligence set some shocking news yesterday.
In the NYT today, Cade Metz implies that I left Google so that I could criticize Google. Actually, I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google. Google has acted very responsibly.

What does this mean for Google?
There is no upside to this news, while people leave companies all the time for their own reasons, sometimes the company pushes them out. Geoffrey's reason's have sent alarm bells to those who have a vested interest in the Artificial Intelligence industry. Elon Musk was quick to tweet out his own reaction:
