Joe NataleThe three month long drama that took made Canada’s largest telecom company Rogers look like an episode of Succession has come to a close, for now. The comparison between Rogers and Succession has often made as the tv series centers around the Roy family, the dysfunctional owners of Waystar RoyCo, a global media and entertainment conglomerate, who are fighting for control of the company amid uncertainty about the health of the family’s patriarch, Logan Roy – sound slightly familiar?

This week the Rogers board made the decision to terminate Joe Natale’s role as CEO replacing him with former Chief Financial Officer, Tony Staffieri.

The Rogers saga started back in March of this year when the company started its $26B take over big for competitor Shaw which helped to fuel the divide between Chair Edward Rogers against his mother, Loretta Rogers, and sisters Martha Rogers and Melinda Rogers-Hixon.

In late September Edward Rogers attempted to replace Joe with Tony Staffieri which furthered the power struggle, a number of board members being removed, but in the end Edward had the final say – after a BC-court ruled in his favour.

Joe Natale marks the third CEO to be shown the door in eight years, following Guy Laurence in 2016 and Nadir Mohamed in 2013.
