Social media app TikTok has been caught with its hands in the data collection jar and its going to cost the company $2 million to settle the Canadian class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that TikTok was illegally collecting and monetizing personal data from its users in Canada. This started back in December 2022 were a claim was filed at the Supreme Court of British Columbia, one filed on behalf of a minor, which alleged TikTok had unlawfully harvested their private information. A second claim was filed in February 2021 a similar charge of misuse of data collection was files.
These comes after a similar settlement was done in the US back in 2021 for $92 million. TikTok has been quiet on this matter and will continue to refuse to give comment on the story.
