Last week we announced the newest offering from CBC as they rolled out CBC NEWS EXPLORE. A free 24/7 ad-supported streaming (FAST) channel offering audiences a new way to discover CBC News. It is a simple model, provide great content and wrap advertising around it, something that should be a win for the publisher and a win for the brands that choose to advertise.
As part of CBC's roll out plans the national broadcaster held a preview event last week inviting 300+ media, brands and advertising agencies to learn more about the new offering and advertising opportunities. Following the event, we reached out to Jennifer Young, Director of Media Buying Services at M&K Media [TCO] for our latest edition of Industry Opinion.

CBC Explore News offers premium content beyond headline news that is designed to be relevant to all Canadians.
- The Bad: Limited content and access. All content relates to news and current events, so if you’re looking for other types of programming, you will need to head elsewhere. Also, the app is not available on Samsung or LG smart TVs yet.
- The Good: Cost and quality of content. Quality free content is what we’re all after, and CBC Explore News provides just that. CBC is known for it’s award-winning, Canadian relevant, content, which you’ll find on the app.
