Who doesn’t like receiving gifts or freebies? However, nothing is truly free except for death and taxes. For years, people have become accustomed to accessing various services, websites, and social networks that offer their platforms at no cost. Over the past year, there have been gradual changes in the provision of platforms by companies that offer them at no cost.
Elon took over Twitter, oh guess X is the new name, and right away started to strip away some features while bundling others into a paid tier. Following his lead, Meta started testing paid verification for Facebook and Instagram back in May.
This week news came out that Meta is now testing an ad-free opportunity to use Facebook and Instagram in the EU. We have also heard that TikTok is testing a monthly subscription of $4.99.
We are currently witnessing the dawn of a new era of social media, which is expected to have a significant impact on the future of these platforms and apps. The big question is, who will come out on top? Will paid social networks prove to be beneficial or detrimental to consumers? Furthermore, with the emergence of ad-free social networks, how will other digital media be affected? Brands often rely on the advertising opportunities that social networks provide, how does the ad-free model impact them?
